Great movies demand a great soundtrack. Unfortunately, movies still on the page have a habit of demanding a soundtrack too, often at the expense of more important things like coherent plotting, likeable characters and a commercially-viable premise. These songs were all chosen to underscore moments in stories that may never be told –
A frozen foot crashes through a window.
A man watches the sun set on his mussel farm for the last time.
The partisan girls are home.
A Russian gangster sails the waves.
Hearts break.
A little boy dances round his room.
Together, the sequences make no sense. But the soundtrack as a whole tells a universal story… of a guy chasing a dream, even if they all think he’s crazy.
