Where were you at the First Summer of Love in 1967? I missed it. I don’t think I was even a twinkle in an eye by then. At least I hope not as my mother was barely thirteen.

During the Second Summer of Love in 1988 I was receiving emergency treatment to remove gangrene from my intestine. I can’t say I was a big part of the acid house scene, but the high-pitched squelches emitting repetitively from my tiny anus weren’t far off the sound that defined the era.

But I remember the Third Summer of Love. I was there, man. Throughout 2006 there was revolution in the air, you could almost taste it. The boundaries began to blur in a profound way and nothing would ever be the same. Why can’t a band be a DJ be a band? Who says the noise of a headphone jack being sloppily inserted can’t be the main riff to a popular song? Why would anyone buy real shoes when each pair of black Primark plimsolls is only three pounds? If my laptop freezes down during a DJ set at a house party, will I remember to turn down the main output before the Windows start up theme plays?
