Connections, connections, connections…
You heard it on the radio, you’ve seen it on the tv-show. In this age of technological wonder, I’m told we’re more connected and more siloed than ever. Music was always a central part of friendship for me, something to be shared and enjoyed together. Binding tastes, influences, pleasures, cementing memories, setting moods, inspiring sessions (take that how you will).
We all had ‘our’ band that everyone soon enough thought was their discovery (Capdown being a huge one for me). We copied tapes, mini disks, some CD’s, made mix tapes for birthdays and lovers. And then it all faded away.
I still share the occasional album with my cousin and friend Max but really 80% of my ‘new’ discoveries come from an algorithm. Be it Spotify, youtube or soundcloud – although way less now sadly – it’s not my director peer group.
10% comes from you lovely lot and what a joy it is to be involved.
The question remains, are we better or worse off? I think better, I just need to make more efforts to share.
This mix is a collection of music that bypassed me when it was released but luckily along the way got swept up and blown in my direction by one of the various digital music platforms. Enjoy.
….ow and the last 10% comes from Shazam. God bless Shazam
